Coronavirus: Hair Loss and Other Reigning Symptoms
Coronavirus is a virus that has caused diseases after coming into contact with it. The primary symptoms of the disease include cough, fever or chills and shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing. People also develop a new loss in the sense of smell or taste and experience muscle or body aches. Some have a sore throat and severe diarrhoea accompanied by nausea or vomiting.
Along with breathing difficulties, some people experience a blocked nose whereas others exhibit a runny nose. The effects of the virus have been severe throughout the world and many studies have been conducted in this regard.
Hair Loss is a Long Covid Symptom
It has been seen that even after weeks or months of getting diagnosed with Coronavirus or getting recovered, people have still experienced certain symptoms. The effects have lingered in patients for a certain amount of time and this is now being defined as Long COVID. It has been said that Long COVID lasts for more than 12 weeks and a recent Lancet study claims that Coronavirus survivors came across symptoms even after six months of recovery, of which hair loss has been a common feature.
Coronavirus and hair loss have been linked together as a possible Coronavirus symptom after a large portion of COVID-19 survivors claimed that they faced hair loss after recovery. Researchers who conducted the study found that a proportionate amount of patients experienced hair loss even after six months of being discharged. It has also been observed that Coronavirus hair loss is more common amongst women in contrast to men.
Other Reigning Symptoms
Along with hair loss, findings of studies reported the presence of symptoms such as fatigue or muscle weakness. Patients also exhibited difficulties in sleeping and were seen to experience anxiety and depression along with dizziness and shortness of breath.
